“Nodaway Valley Bank has been in Smithville since 2020 operating out of a temporary modular building, but now it intends to make its presence more permanent.
The Maryville-based bank has started construction on a 4,000-square-foot building at the southeast corner of U.S. Highway 169 and Commercial Street in Smithville, according to a release from Nodaway. It’s expected to take nine months to finish the facility, which will have a four-lane drive-thru and ‘a modern flair with a distinctive tower and extensive glass and contrasting tiles.’
The independently owned bank entered the Kansas City market in November 2020 with a full-service branch in Platte City. The Smithville branch soon followed. Nodaway Valley Bank (NVB) also opened a lending office in 2023 in Liberty, according to its website.
NVB may come from a small town, but it’s not a small operation. As of January, Nodaway Valley Bank had $1.42 million in assets and 11 branches. Founded in 1868, the bank acquired Heritage Bank in St. Joseph in 2003 and Exchange Bank in Mound City in 2007.
Last year, the Kansas City Business Journal named NVB as one of the metro’s five strongest banks for 2023, noting zero problem loans among its $885.3 million in loans and leases and highlighting its $95.7 million in equity capital. Nodaway Valley Bank had $100.4 million in metro-area deposits among it $1.24 billion total deposits. From 2023 to 2024, NVB saw its commercial and industrial loans increase by $24.23 million, ranking it No. 19 on the Fastest-Growing Commercial Lenders List.”
